{"id":842,"date":"2023-03-04T05:15:07","date_gmt":"2023-03-04T05:15:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/doncopolitan.wordpress.com\/?p=356"},"modified":"2023-03-04T12:13:55","modified_gmt":"2023-03-04T12:13:55","slug":"exhibition-programme-2015-16-at-doncaster-museum-art-gallery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/developmentunbloq.co.uk\/?p=842","title":{"rendered":"Exhibition Programme 2015 \/ 16  at Doncaster Museum &amp; Art Gallery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Yorkshire Photographic Union<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>9<sup>th<\/sup> May \u2013 5<sup>th<\/sup> July<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Almost 70 photographic clubs make up the membership of the Yorkshire Photographic Union (YPU), which this year holds its annual exhibition at Doncaster Museum &amp; Art Gallery.<\/p>\n<p>All photographic clubs within the Yorkshire Region are affiliated to the YPU, and each year club members are invited to enter images into an open competition to find the best amateur photographers in the region.<\/p>\n<p>Around 1,500 images are submitted to be displayed at the exhibition, with around 200 images being selected by the judges for the final display.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mark Holiday: Gullwick and the Sunset<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>16<sup>th<\/sup> May \u2013 28<sup>th<\/sup> June<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sometime ago artist and illustrator Mark Holiday was fortunate enough to be invited to the beautiful Shetland Islands to hold an exhibition of his fairy-tale paintings. Whilst there, he went spotting puffins, whales and seals, and went looking for treasure on St Ninians isle.<\/p>\n<p>One day while Mark was visiting the Shetland Islands in a place where Viking legend says \u201cYou can cast a stone from a sea into an ocean\u201d he met a little fellow called Gullwick who, over a steaming mug of seaweed ,soup told him of his many many adventures. This exhibition depicts one of those adventures.<\/p>\n<p>Mark Is an artist and illustrator brought up in Doncaster.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Doncaster Art Club<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>18<sup>th<\/sup> July \u2013 13<sup>th<\/sup> September<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our annual display of work by members of the Doncaster Art Club is always one of our most popular exhibitions. This year\u2019s exhibition includes paintings, drawings and sculptures in a variety of media, with many of the works being for sale.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Departing from Doncaster<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>18<sup>th<\/sup> July \u2013 13<sup>th<\/sup> September<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2018Departing from Doncaster\u2019 celebrates Doncaster\u2019s fine railway heritage, by bringing together an eclectic mix of railway artefacts and memorabilia from the Museum Service and the Doncaster Grammar School Railway Collection. Many significant items will be on display for the first time, as we recognise the importance of Doncaster as the starting point for many a great railway journey.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Anne Frank + You <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>2<sup>nd\u00a0\u00a0 <\/sup>October \u2013 30<sup>th<\/sup> October<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The diary of Anne Frank is possibly the most poignant and famous record of persecution during the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> World War. This touring exhibition from the Anne Frank Trust UK draws on themes from Anne\u2019s diary such as racial hatred, and the value of freedom.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition brings together poignant personal photos of Anne and her sister Margot, with replica artefacts from Anne\u2019s life and the Holocaust, including the chilling genocide tunnel, and a near life-size replica of Anne\u2019s bedroom in the Secret Annexe.<\/p>\n<p>A Touring Exhibition from the Anne Frank Trust UK<\/p>\n<p><strong>Open Art<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>17<sup>th<\/sup> October \u2013 13<sup>th<\/sup> December<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our annual celebration of the best in arts and crafts from artists and makers working across the region. There are prizes on offer for the best works in the exhibition, and with many of the pieces being for sale, \u2018Open Art\u2019 provides an ideal opportunity to purchase an original Christmas gift.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Good Vibrations: The Colour of Art <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>9<sup>th<\/sup> January \u2013 26<sup>th<\/sup> March<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Using works drawn from the collection of Doncaster Museum Service, \u2018Good Vibrations\u2019 looks at the wonderful world of colour, and how artists use it in their paintings. The exhibition examines some of the science behind our perception of colour, as well as how artists use colour in to create different moods and effects.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition includes works by among other Maggi Hambling, Dorothea Sharpe and Francis Campbell Boileau Cadell.<\/p>\n<p><strong>John Sprakes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>16<sup>th<\/sup> January \u2013 9<sup>th<\/sup> April<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A major retrospective by Doncaster-born artist John Sprakes, containing paintings and drawings made over a period of 45 years. The inspiration behind John\u2019s work comes from several disciplines, including landscape, still life, interiors and figures, all produced and inspired by many areas of the British Isles. Seen together the exhibition charts the development of John\u2019s work from figurative to derivative abstraction.<\/p>\n<p>Cusworth Hall<\/p>\n<p><strong>Delightful Donny: Images of Doncaster<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>3<sup>rd<\/sup> May \u2013 6<sup>th<\/sup> July 2015<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After its successful showing at Doncaster Museum &amp; Art Gallery \u2018Delightful Donny\u2019 transfers to Cusworth Hall. The exhibition brings together around 40 works from the collection of Doncaster Museum Service depicting Doncaster and its surrounding area. From the hustle and bustle of Doncaster Market, to the rural charm of the town\u2019s surrounding villages, the selected images paint a view of the richness of our local area.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Toys Were Us! <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>13<sup>th<\/sup> July \u2013 20<sup>th<\/sup> September <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We all have fond memories of our favourite childhood toys. Perhaps we have even lovingly hidden them away in a secret cupboard or drawer. This exhibition brings together some of the most iconic examples of toys within our collection from Victorian times to the present day. Who knows, maybe you will spot something you recognise!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pit Profiles: Re-profiled<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>3<sup>rd<\/sup> October 2015 \u2013 17<sup>th<\/sup> January 2016<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Pit Profiles: Re-profiled brings together original portraits by artist H. Andrew Freeth (1912 \u2013 1986) and contemporary photographer Anton Want.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition was inspired by the work of Freeth, who was the first artist to be commissioned by the National Coal Board to record miners across the coalfields. His intimate portraits were published alongside their individual stories as \u2018Pit Profiles\u2019 in the NCB\u2019s monthly magazine <em>Coal<\/em>, between 1947 and 1952.<\/p>\n<p>Shown alongside Freeth\u2019s paintings are Anton Want\u2019s portraits and oral-history interviews, which provide an artistic legacy honouring one of Britain\u2019s oldest industries and the people who have helped to shape it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Photographs by Luke Bagshaw from the collection of Doncaster Museum Service. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>23<sup>rd<\/sup> January \u2013 3<sup>rd<\/sup> April 2016<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Luke Bagshaw\u2019s stunning photographs of Doncaster taken at the end of the 19<sup>th<\/sup> and beginning of the 20<sup>th<\/sup> centuries record the rapid changes being brought about in the town by the development of the railways and the mining industry. His photographs include images of the building of North Bridge, road widening schemes, laying down of tramways and the&#8217; retail revolution&#8217; of the late Victorian and Edwardian periods.
